Greek Cooking Recipes
We are at a time when it takes two incomes to run a household. In order to do that, we must balance our time between family and work. Time is so limited that cooking becomes more of a chore and is put on the back burner. I find that having certain appliances handy helps take some the preparation time out of cooking. Less preparation means I have more time to spend doing the things I enjoy.
My favorite appliance is my Black & Decker Handy Chopper. This compact little machine allows me to chop garlic, onions, celery and many other things into chunks or mince them into a fine granule ready to sauté. This process takes only seconds and allows for minimal handling which in turn keeps my hands from smelling, as well, it helps control the tears caused by the onions. My kitchen wouldn"t be complete without it.
Did I say my handy chopper was my favorite appliance? That"s not quite true. My coffee maker is. My day doesn"t start without my coffee so without my coffeemaker my day doesn"t start. I program my coffeemaker every night to ensure a nice hot cup of coffee is waiting for me when I get up. I grab my favorite Mickey Mouse mug, fill it up and begin to prepare for the day ahead of me. I couldn"t imagine my kitchen without my coffeemaker.
As you have probably guessed, I like my coffee. Well, the kids like smoothies. Therefore a blender is also an essential in the kitchen. I always keep plenty of fruit, whether it fresh or frozen, on hand so we can make a nutritious breakfast. The kids get to pick their fruits and I pour in the juice and yogurt. It makes me feel good knowing that my kids are getting the nutrients needed to begin their active day. For a midday treat for myself I throw a few ice cubes in my blender with a teaspoon of instant coffee, a dash of vanilla, 8 ounces of milk a little sugar and whip it up. Voila! I have an iced coffee. Life is good and couldn"t get any easier. It sure beats getting into the car and driving to get one of these delicious drinks. Life is so much easier when you have the appliances to help you.
